This track, taken from the homonymous EP we released in 2017, encloses all the elements of our music in that period: it has mellow vocals, dreamlike lyrics, intertwined guitar and piano lines, strong dynamics and hypnotic rhythmics.
Unlike the other 4 tracks on the EP, which rely prominently on hard riffs (“Fear Knocked on the Door” and “Lost”) or dreamy atmospheres (“Moon at Sunrise” and “Routine”), “Paper Man” sees the active participation of all of us working together in the same direction, building a strong and effective piece of music.
lyrics
He sits crouched under the stairs
and waits to appear in the same vignette
for years he has been playing a part
He speaks through billions of clouds
he lives in a world of inked paper
no longer knows who he is
Chasing who has not yet become
clearly the writer has no more ideas, while
he thinks on how to move on his story,
he’s in a place where false and real collide
If you chose life, a beautiful place where you dive,
you could think, act and respect your own mind
you wouldn’t be afraid of all that whiteness around
you could draw it and fill it with all the colors you mix
He sits crouched under the stairs
and waits to appear in the same vignette
Last night I made a dream
I could touch, I could see (I could see)
I could taste, I could hear
Paper man
can you feel?
“Wait a second, lets start from the beginning
you have a good job, a fast car, designer’s clothes, easy amusements
you can have what you deserve, you shouldn’t leave us”
I chose life, a beautiful place where I dive,
I can think, act and respect my own mind
I fell good with all that whiteness around
I can draw me and fill me with all the colors I found
and that’s what I’ve found

I received this as a surprise present by the band for pre-ordering the upcoming album, so thanks a lot to you, too :-))
As could be expected by Pat Sanders & Co, highly melodic prog that should, for instance, appeal too friends of Fish-era Marillion (although Uncle Fish would never have reached those high notes ;-) ) and some instrumentals (from beautiful miniatures like Bubbles to the more epic Last Supper). Among many other fine things offered here, I especially love Pat's piano playing! Carsten Pieper

To me, "Trip The Life Fantastic" was a must-buy on "Bandcamp Friday" this time. It's one of the few "Drifting Sun" albums not already found in my collection, and an essential one, because it marks the beginning of the prolific collaboration of composer/keyboardist Pat Sanders and lyricist/singer Peter Falconer, which was, in my opinion, the best creative pairing the band ever had.
